About the Role
Within the DEA, the Trafficking Detection Officer will be responsible for establishing and coordinating intelligence activities to monitor and detect animal trafficking, both nationally and internationally, using surveillance, infiltration, and evidence-gathering techniques. Your role will be to share investigation findings with the relevant authorities, acting as a whistleblower. You will develop and maintain partnerships with local, European, and international authorities and stakeholders involved in combating animal abuse.
You will also be responsible for strategic monitoring to anticipate new forms of traffic.
Establish and deploy an intelligence activity
- Utilizing databases, specialized investigative tools, and open-source information
- Conduct thorough research on the internet (especially the dark web) and social media to identify clues and suspicious activities.
- Mastering data analysis tools (spreadsheets, data mining software, network visualization) in order to cross-reference information and identify patterns of fraudulent behavior.
- Participate in the development of algorithms or automated search methods to improve anomaly detection
Monitoring and follow-up
- Establish discreet monitoring and surveillance systems – including, where necessary, creating ad hoc teams of volunteer investigators to strengthen these systems
- Methodically document the information gathered and archive the evidence securely and accessibly.
- Ensure that operational and legal limits are respected, without attempting to act outside one’s scope of authority.
Reporting and cooperation with the authorities
- Transmit the files and initial findings of the investigations to the competent authorities as soon as:
- The investigations fall within a judicial or repressive framework requiring specific skills.
- The mission involves an excessive risk to the investigator or his team.
- Write clear, detailed and actionable reports to facilitate law enforcement intervention.
- To foster and maintain a smooth and professional collaboration with the judicial and security services.
Partnership development
To structure, develop and maintain a network of partners (other associations, institutions, authorities) at the European and even international level in order to be able to solicit their help and collaborate on investigations beyond French borders; and to be identified by partners as a key interlocutor and privileged point of contact for the detection of trafficking in France
Secondary activities
- Contribute to the implementation of tools for traffic prevention and early detection (online or physical).
- Contribute to the implementation of traffic prevention measures
- Sharing expertise by raising awareness among internal teams about weak signals and detection techniques.
- Conduct strategic monitoring of trends and new operating methods related to traffic.

Frequent travel throughout the country is required, as well as flexible hours (night work or weekends).
Your profile
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Fluent English is required at a minimum; proficiency in other languages is a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills / Ability to write clear and concise reports for external partners
- Knowledge of animals (animal behavior, restraint, hygiene and safety…)
- Knowledge of the legal and judicial system
- Proficiency in office software (Microsoft Office suite, email)
- Data analysis: ability to process large volumes of information, to identify patterns and significant correlations.
- Advanced mastery of computer tools for online investigations: OSINT, advanced search software, database exploitation.
- Knowledge of the technologies used by criminal networks, including encryption tools and darknets

TRAINING / EXPERIENCE
- Prior experience in law enforcement and/or in the fields of investigation and cyber investigation is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree (Bac + 3) required in criminology, data analysis, cyber investigation.
- Category B driving licence
Permanent, full-time position available as soon as possible, at the SPA headquarters in Paris (75).
