Top Talent Directory

In 2023, we introduced our Top Talent Directory, an exclusive programme that aims to retain and coordinate top talent amongst organisations.

This programme aims to coordinate top candidates from multiple organisations’ previous hiring rounds, making it easy for both small and large organisations to find the best talent efficiently and for candidates who have just been rejected to not give up and to feel supported, motivated and inspired to find other opportunities.

We believe the Top Talent Directory (TTD) will be essential for strengthening the animal advocacy community in the long run by retaining and supporting talented advocates.

Testimonials

Becca RogersFound a role at New Roots Institute through the Job Board
I had about three or four employers reach out to me, all of which were for leadership and director level roles. And that in itself really gave me so much more confidence… I did make it to the final round with Compassion in World Farming for a Head of US Campaigns role and they found me through AAC.
Mikaela SaccoccioExecutive Director - Farmed Animal Funders
Hiring value-aligned, impact-oriented staff is critical to the success of Farmed Animal Funders, and that process starts with a robust candidate pipeline. The AAC Top Candidate Database provided strong candidates we otherwise wouldn't have met.

What people say about our career advice

Shweta SoodGlobal Vice President of Marketing and Communications - Mercy For Animals
Reflecting on my journey, AAC's career advice was crucial. Martin’s guidance and the resources he provided were instrumental in navigating my career transitions effectively. For anyone in the animal advocacy movement seeking career guidance, AAC’s services are invaluable. Their support helped me find a role where I can truly make a difference.
Cecilia ValenzaEngagement Coordinator - Aquatic Animal Alliance
The resources provided by AAC, including fundraising profiles and a career strengths questionnaire, were invaluable in shaping my applications and interviews. Thanks to the guidance and resources from AAC, I found a role that not only aligns with my skills but also offers new challenges and growth opportunities in the international arena.
Marcello Veronese
I think the biggest impact on me is that the call a) encouraged me to try out more things, as I'll always be able to come back to psychotherapy b) made me think less ""black and white"" about my career and made me feel less under pressure in terms of having to immediately find the optimal career path. All in all, it was a great call! 🙂 I felt very comfortable and was impressed that you have so many numbers from surveys that were very important to many of my questions / uncertainties. Thank you!
Tracy
The career counseling call was extremely motivating, allowing me to feel more equipped in taking the next steps towards finding a position where I can make an impact for animals. I am grateful for the time and resources dedicated to helping each person find a job they love, while also helping animals. I would highly recommend.

My call with Lauren at Animal Advocacy Careers was very helpful. As someone in the early to mid stages of my career, I’m planning to move into a role that benefits animals over the next couple of years. Lauren really took the time to understand my goals, skills, and timeline, and together we came up with a couple of different paths — some I hadn’t even considered before! She gave me concrete suggestions and contacts to help me build the right skills before the transition, and I came away feeling much more confident about my next steps

Candidate Testimonials

Nina WineProject Manager - Equalia
I had been looking for jobs basically anywhere in the animal movement… But once I looked at the job descriptions on your site, it was actually exactly what I was looking for.
Taylor Waters
Taylor WatersHead of Programs - Animal & Vegan Advocacy Summit
Yes! I am an animal lawyer, but I was frustrated with some aspects of lawyering. I did the AAC course which kind of opened my mind to looking at non-legal jobs, and then when I saw the AVA posting I was so sold, and truly it has been the best decision I've made for my career-happiness. I owe AAC so much!
Björn OlafssonResearch Liaison - Faunalytics
My job search journey began with a focus on roles within the animal advocacy movement, whether in companies producing animal product alternatives or in animal advocacy nonprofits. Despite my efforts, finding the right fit was challenging, especially as I was transitioning to a completely new sector. It was during this period that I discovered Animal Advocacy Careers (AAC) and their job board, which became a crucial resource in my search.
Serena ConfortiAdvocacy & Communications Officer - Animal Law Foundation
Before finding the job on AAC's board, I didn’t know about The Animal Law Foundation. I also followed LinkedIn and Environmentjob for job searches, but I possibly wouldn’t have seen this role without AAC.
Hailey MyersWest Coast Coordinator- Animal Place - Food for Thought
I discovered the Animal Advocacy Careers (AAC) job board while searching for remote roles related to animals. Over the past year, I applied for various roles at organizations like Mercy for Animals and Sierra Club. My experience was in human rights, but I wanted to work with wild or farmed animals, though I’d also have loved working in cat welfare. The AAC job board matched my career aspirations perfectly.
Ignacia Sáiz LynchInternational Events Coordinator - ProVeg International
I felt inspired and opened myself to search for new opportunities, and through AAC's job board I found what I was looking for. In September, I joined ProVeg International as their International Events Coordinator, and now I'm happy to invest my energy in this amazing organisation with such a great and challenging mission.

Giving for animals

Last year, we conducted some user research and found that not all animal advocates want or can just change their careers (fair enough), but they still would like to meaningfully contribute, feel part of the movement and support animals.

So we launched Giving for Animals, in partnership with Giving What We Can – a community of people pledging to give 10% of their income for the rest of their lives to making the world better.

In addition, we have created a Giving for Animals pledge club, supporting individuals whether they are potential or current pledgers to meet and discuss any uncertainties, questions, tax advice and the best giving opportunities.

Fundraising Work Placement

The Fundraising Work Placement (FWP) was a new pilot programme implemented in 2022, designed to bring in talented individuals from adjacent sectors on a 6-month placement, working in fundraising at animal advocacy nonprofits.

Impact:

We focused first on offering this service specifically for fundraising roles, because our research about hiring difficulties has confirmed that nonprofits find it especially difficult to hire high-quality candidates for this type of work, while simultaneously also struggling with lack of funding.

We had 206 applications, of which we’ve selected 9 to be placed at different organisations across 6 countries, working an equivalent of 3 FTE months.
