About the Role

We are looking for a Research Analyst to support the Spring team with both desk & field research, market analysis, business modeling, and ad hoc research projects. You will help us understand markets, build and check models, gather and organize information, and write up findings clearly. The work is varied: one week might be sizing a market segment, the next might be a literature review or a set of company profiles. The role begins as a consulting position (20–40 hrs/week) and may grow into a permanent role at Spring.

What You’ll Do

  • Market analysis: Research and size markets, map competitors and customers, and summarize adoption drivers, regulatory context, and industry trends.
  • Business modeling: Build and maintain financial and operating models in Excel or Google Sheets, including unit economics, pricing, and scenario analysis.
  • Ad hoc research: Take on focused research questions on technologies, companies, species, supply chains, and policy, and deliver clear, sourced write-ups.
  • Interviews: Conduct customer interviews with producers or industry partners by phone, email, or in person as needs demand.
  • Data and organization: Gather, clean, and organize data from public sources, reports, and interviews; help keep our internal trackers and research library current.
  • Ideas list: Manage and maintain our current list of 150+ welfare tech startup concepts.
  • Communication: Turn research into concise memos, slides, and summaries that a non-specialist reader can act on.

Who You Are

  • An interest in animal welfare and agriculture.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in a research- or analysis-focused role; consulting, business analytics, data analytics, or market research backgrounds are a strong fit.
  • Comfortable with spreadsheet modeling and working with quantitative data.
  • A careful researcher: you cite your sources, separate what a source says from what you infer, and flag gaps in the evidence.
  • Highly organized; you keep track of multiple open questions and deliver on agreed timelines.
  • Self-directed and comfortable working remotely with a small team; you ask good questions early.

Pluses: background in venture capital, agriculture, aquaculture, animal science; experience with early-stage companies; familiarity with animal welfare science or certification standards.

What We Offer

A flexible, remote role with a small mission-driven team, and broad exposure to how a venture studio and fund evaluates markets and builds companies. Compensation of $40–50 per hour, with the potential to convert to a full-time, permanent position.

Spring Innovation Fund is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive team.

About the Organisation

Spring Innovation Fund is a venture philanthropy firm dedicated to Welfare Tech: technologies that improve animal welfare on farms and fisheries and make commercial sense for producers. Through catalytic capital and hands-on incubation, Spring aims to grow the field of Welfare Tech and scale its impact.
