The support from Lauren and the AAC team has been such an incredible enabler for my transition from former corporate chapters in life and into a senior leadership role at Mercy For Animals. As a newcomer to this movement, I traveled to Washington for AVA and wasn’t sure where I might fit in this movement, had a lot to learn about it, and didn’t know how I’d be received. Lauren not only made space in a busy calendar for me, but really reinforced the need for someone with my skills and created an incredibly welcoming and supportive environment, where I could ask questions, get great advice, and be connected with others. Over the rest of the year, she kept me in mind, made introductions when relevant, sent me roles that would be a good fit, served as a thought partner / challenger to my ideas when I thought I had a great idea and when I was going through an incubator, and overall, was simply a great sounding board, coach, friend, guide, and more. When I reflect, I would say there was a recipe that had many factors to my success, and I would confidently say AAC was a key element. AAC’s career coaching came at the perfect moment in my life. I had just sold my business and was ready and eager for a career that contributed to animals. AAC helped me identify how I can use my skills to make the biggest impact — resulting in the strategy behind the nonprofit I cofounded called Scarlet Spark.

Landing a role at the Good Food Institute (GFI) felt like serendipity. While I had heard of GFI in passing, I wasn’t actively following the organization. It was through the Animal Advocacy Careers (AAC) job board that I stumbled upon the perfect fit. Despite regularly browsing LinkedIn it was AAC that consistently delivered the animal advocacy roles I was seeking. Their platform streamlined my search, ensuring I didn’t miss out on opportunities aligned with my passion for social justice and animal welfare.

With a background in public health and program evaluation, Ellen had a vision to use research to alleviate suffering among both humans and animals. Her search for impactful research roles within the movement was driven by her passion to make a difference.

AAC played a pivotal role in shaping Ellen’s journey. Through a career advising session, she found clarity and direction. Acting on AAC’s advice, Ellen pursued volunteering opportunities to enhance her skills and credentials. This journey led her to a role at Animal Charity Evaluators, where she continues to apply her expertise to create a positive impact.

With a background in consulting and project management, Pia’s career took a turn after parental leave. Seeking a meaningful shift, she founded Alternative Proteins to drive change.

AAC’s CEO, Lauren Mee, played a pivotal role by offering Pia personalized guidance. They worked together to found Tälist—a venture connecting Alternative Protein ventures with top global talent. Pia’s journey underscores how unexpected twists can lead to purposeful impact.

Ging’s career spanned roles in the Philippines government and organisations like the World Bank. Not actively job hunting, she seized high-impact opportunities that matched her values. Amid this, she co-founded AEP (Animal Equality Philippines) to champion animals.

AAC’s skills profile on “Growing the animal advocacy community in countries where it is small or new” sparked Ging to think about community building in the Philippines and consider it “one of the most effective ways” she could help farmed animals, rather than working full-time at a government agency.

Meet Nina, an experienced project manager with a passion for making a difference.

Searching far and wide in the animal movement, she discovered AAC’s job board. There it was – the perfect opportunity at Equalia.

Thanks to AAC’s support, Nina now thrives as a Project Manager, driving meaningful change for animals. AAC helped her find her place in creating a more compassionate world.

The Animal Welfare League in Ghana, founded by Jacob Ayang, initially aimed to shelter dogs. Then came a pivotal moment—connecting with AAC’s online course.

With no prior knowledge, they embraced the course. The outcome? A transformative shift. They redirected efforts from sheltering to farmed animal advocacy, capitalizing on corporate campaigns and farmer workshops. AAC’s course empowered a strategic shift towards greater impact.

Armed with a law degree, Shreya was immersed in animal welfare research at an Indian university. Satisfied but curious, she sought more impactful avenues.

AAC’s online course was her game-changer. It unveiled diverse roles beyond research, prompting Shreya to join Fish Welfare Initiative as an executive assistant. Knowledge ignited action, shaping Shreya’s transition from researcher to passionate advocate.

Aim’s professional journey began with a background in social psychology. After completing her master’s degree, she found herself in a gap year, pondering her next steps. Recognizing the importance of a strong foundation, she decided to invest in her career capital.

Aim’s path was shaped by AAC’s online course, which played a pivotal role in her transition to animal advocacy. The course provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the field and helped her navigate the diverse avenues within it. Aim’s story is a testament to the value of education and exploration, ultimately guiding her towards a fulfilling career dedicated to making a difference for animals.

Siobhan’s journey began with a law degree and her own training organization for social workers. Her involvement in animal advocacy was a gradual transition, marked by her volunteering efforts and role at Animal Charity Evaluators. As a new mother, actively seeking a new role wasn’t at the forefront of her priorities.

That’s where AAC made a significant impact. Through our fundraising work placement program, Siobhan found herself at Sentience Politics, a prominent animal advocacy organization in Switzerland. The successful period she spent there led to a permanent role offer as a Fundraising Associate. Siobhan’s story underscores the power of opportunities and support in guiding her career towards meaningful animal advocacy, a path she may not have embraced otherwise.

With a background rooted in the sports sector and a wealth of experience in various charities, Eva was no stranger to diverse career paths. However, she faced a unique challenge in her search for opportunities in organizations focusing on neglected areas like wild animal welfare.

AAC stepped in to bridge the gap. Through AAC’s fundraising work placement program, Eva found her way to Animal Ethics. Her dedication and contributions during this period didn’t go unnoticed. The result? A permanent development coordinator role offer from Animal Ethics. Eva’s decision to accept the offer marked her commitment to the world of animal advocacy, a path she might not have otherwise explored.
