From film producer to fundraiser in the animal advocacy space: meet Hannah Tookey 🙋🏻‍♀️

Hannah has been an independent film, audio and theatre producer for over 8 years, until she found Animal Advocacy Careers’ fundraising work placement.

She has done some fundraising projects before, but it was never the main focus of her work.

Now, she’s having the opportunity to improve her fundraising skills even further, while increasing her impact for animals through her work placement at Sentient Media. She’s still working as a producer alongside the placement.

With a background in politics and civil society, Janis initially wasn’t on the lookout for animal advocacy roles. Opportunities in this field were scarce, and he was already engaged in other forms of advocacy and politics.

Thanks to AAC CEO Lauren Mee’s guidance, Janis discovered a new path. Recognizing the potential impact, Lauren encouraged him to apply as a political advisor on animal welfare policies in the German Bundestag. Today, Janis is making a difference at the intersection of politics and animal welfare.

With 30 years in marketing, Helen explored animal advocacy roles after AAC’s course. It opened her eyes to new possibilities, making full-time advocacy work feasible.

Though she faced challenges, AAC’s advisor helped to steer her forward. Now, Helen works to create positive change for farmed animals every day.

Rex spent over ten years working in fundraising for various nonprofits, supporting groups like the elderly, deaf individuals, and youth from under-represented backgrounds.

Rex wasn’t actively searching for a new role, but one day, he stumbled upon a comment by AAC’s recruitment specialist in a social media group. Curious, he reached out and was presented with potential opportunities. The CAWF role caught his attention, aligning perfectly with his background and passions.

Susanna spent decades working in sales and managing accounts for big media companies like the BBC.

Even though she hadn’t planned on it, Susanna saw that her experience and values matched the role perfectly. Thanks to AAC’s guidance, she stepped into a new role that aligned with her beliefs.

Kara spent most of her career in the public sector, primarily managing human resources for financial institutions.

After retiring from her corporate career to pursue her dream of working in farmed animal advocacy, she searched for job opportunities for about a year.

It was on AAC’s job board that Kara discovered the Factory Farming Awareness Coalition, a perfect match for her skills and aspirations. Today, Kara is living her dream, using her expertise to create a positive impact for animals.

Conor completed a JD (Juris Doctor) degree and did some legal internships and fellowships at animal advocacy organisations.

Conor was looking for various opportunities relating to the law and animals, with a particular focus on lobbying or policy roles.

After some time looking for opportunities, she accepted the opportunity to become a Policy Research Fellow at Pax Fauna, a job opening she found on Animal Advocacy Careers’ job board. She had never heard of Pax Fauna before seeing the role listed there.

Lyda Durango had been searching for an animal advocacy role for years without success. Frustrated and on the verge of giving up, she signed up for AAC’s online course.

The course renewed her efforts and eventually led her to a role at Vegetarianos Hoy, where she now has line management responsibilities for corporate campaigners across Latin America.
