About the Role

The “Behind the Plates…” program works on a simple principle: we don’t stop at the students in the classroom. Among the participants in our cooking workshops, some want to take the message further themselves.

Two notions that we strictly use:

Candidate
A young man who signed up for a cooking workshop. He said “yes, I want to.” Nothing more.

Ambassador
A candidate who has participated in all 3 training sessions supported by Humane Educators. The title is obtained, not received upon registration.

The problem we want to solve: between signing up on the form and the first event held in front of a class, people are lost. Due to lack of contact, encouragement, structure. Until now, we didn’t even have a system to know how many are lost and at what point.

The role of Ambassador Manager exists for exactly this: so that no one gets lost along the way and we know, for the first time, what is actually happening in this funnel.

Selection Criteria

  • Resonance with the vision and values of ACIA.
  • The level of familiarity with veganism and its health and environmental benefits.
  • A sense of humor and a positive attitude.
  • Experience working with volunteers and youth.
  • Experience in human resources or an equivalent role in recruiting, onboarding, and maintaining a community.

What Exactly Will You Do?

  • Onboarding. You take over each candidate from the moment they sign up on the form, after the cooking workshop. You make the first contact, explain what’s next, set expectations, integrate the person into the group.
  • Constant communication. You maintain contact with each candidate and ambassador, from registration to the last event held. Not every three weeks, but rhythmically.
  • Motivation and retention. You identify people who are starting to withdraw early and intervene. This is the hardest and most important part of the role.
  • Scheduling trainings. Together with the two Humane Educators, you establish the session calendar for each cohort, take care of logistics, convocations, and attendance records. Attendance at all 3 sessions, including the online ones, is the condition for receiving the ambassador title and the letter of recommendation.
  • 6 online sessions with the group, two per quarter: the first two training sessions of each cohort, with both cities together.
  • 3 physical days with the group, one per quarter: third training session in the morning, social activity in the afternoon (documentary screening, composting workshop, escape room, laser tag, depending on the group’s preferences). Propose the format, location, and date, with the Project Manager’s approval.
  • Performance support. Help each ambassador effectively reach a class: logistics, contact with the school, courage, preparation, follow-up after the event. At the actual events, the ambassadors are assisted by the Humane Educator in the respective city, who also provides them with the necessary food samples and props.
  • The recognition system. You explain, track, and use the program’s levels and benefits system as a motivational tool.
  • Track and report. Build and maintain funnel records: how many candidates signed up, how many started training, how many completed it, how many events each ambassador delivered and to how many attendees. This record is the program’s primary tracking system, so its quality matters as much as the results themselves.
  • Noting the hours worked in the first semester. Not as a form of control, but because we don’t yet have data on the real effort of this role. What you note becomes the basis for the calculation for the following contracts.

The rest of the activity is online: calls, messages, video meetings, tracking the status of each person in the group.

Final decision. In any difference of opinion between you and the program Project Manager regarding a candidate or ambassador, the decision belongs to the Project Manager, to whom you report.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • 1-on-1 communication with young people: the ability to build a trusting relationship quickly, without condescension.
  • Assertive and non-violent communication.
  • Organization and discipline in tracking: you know at all times what stage each candidate and each ambassador is in. Basically, you build and keep up to date a table, not a list in your head.
  • Initiative in contact: the role only works if you write and call first, not if you wait.
  • Remote work with autonomy: you manage your own time and respect your commitments.

Personality characteristics: assertive and non-violent communication, empathy, perseverance, practicality, reliability.

Contract Objectives

You coordinate the group of candidates and ambassadors of the program, formed by those who sign up after the cooking workshops supported by the two Humane Educators. The reference group is of 6 trained ambassadors.

Training Objective

All 6 ambassadors must have completed the 3 training sessions by June 15, 2027, regardless of whether they have already held events. The ambassadors in the third cohort are being trained for the 2027/2028 school year.

Funnel Goals

  • 35% conversion rate. Percentage of candidates registered on the form who complete the 3 training sessions and obtain the ambassador title.
  • 50% retention rate. Percentage of trained ambassadors who remain active until the end of the contract, i.e. available for an additional event or for support at a cooking workshop.

Rates are deliberately calibrated at an accessible level, for a reason we’ll be honest about: this is the first year the program has measured the ambassador funnel. We have no history. Therefore, the first result we expect from you is a clean data set, not a spectacular performance. Rates are recalibrated at the end of the collaboration, based on what you measured.

Funnel goals are percentages because the number of candidates depends on the recruitment done by Humane Educators at their cooking workshops. You are not held accountable for something you do not control.

A Word About Inclusion

ACIA welcomes applications from LGBTQIA+ people, people from ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and anyone who has ever been discouraged from applying for reasons unrelated to competency. If you need an accommodation in the selection process, please mention it in your application.

About the Organisation

ACIA is an organization founded in Romania in 2019, dedicated to exposing and raising awareness of the effects of food choices on environmental sustainability, human and animal health. We took over the concept of Humane Education from Western organizations, being the first and only organization in the country that focuses exclusively on education as a means of human growth, while also being a pioneering institution in the social justice movement in Romania.
