About the Educated Choices Program
The Educated Choices Program (ECP) is a food systems education nonprofit. We provide, at no cost to schools, over 20 professionally produced education packages – each video is paired with a complete lesson plan, for learners from elementary school through adulthood, connecting food choices to their effects on health, the environment, and animals.
Since 2016, ECP’s presentations have reached more than 3.8 million learners across 80+ countries and territories and more than 10,000 schools and institutions. We are a recognized nutrition education provider for New York City public schools, a Keeling Curve Prize Laureate, a finalist for the 2026 Climate Curve Prize: Methane, and hold Candid’s Platinum Transparency Seal and a 4-star Charity Navigator rating.
The Role
This is a new position, created to add dedicated capacity for major-gift and individual-giving fundraising. It’s a builder role for someone excited to develop ECP’s first individual-giving program.
You’ll report directly to ECP’s Founder & CEO. As this department grows, there is high potential for management of staff and contractors.
What You’ll Do
Individual & major gift fundraising
- Build ECP’s individual-giving and major-gift program from the ground up: identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors capable of significant annual and multi-year gifts.
- Design and launch an individual-giving strategy, including donor segmentation, a moves-management system, and a stewardship calendar.
- Represent ECP directly to individual donors and prospects, including virtual and in-person meetings.
- Work alongside the CEO on cultivation of ECP’s highest-capacity donor relationships.
Team leadership & strategy
- Manage and support relevant staff, contractors, and/or interns.
- Build one integrated development strategy (grants, major gifts, and individual giving) presented to the CEO and Board as a single picture of fundraising performance.
- Report regularly to the CEO on fundraising progress, pipeline health, and partnership status.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 5+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience, including significant experience in major and individual giving and a demonstrated track record of cultivating, soliciting, and closing major gifts. We are specifically seeking donor cultivation experience; grant-writing experience alone does not meet this requirement.
- Experience building or significantly growing a donor program, campaign, or portfolio from an early stage.
- Demonstrated experience developing and stewarding relationships with individual donors and philanthropic partners.
Skills & Capabilities
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills, both written and interpersonal.
- Ability to work independently and proactively while collaborating effectively within a small, fully remote, distributed team.
- Comfortable working independently with donor CRM systems, fundraising data, and donor tracking.
- Ability to represent ECP professionally and authentically with donors, prospective supporters, and external partners.
Other Requirements
- Ability to travel within the United States as needed for donor cultivation and relationship development.
- Ability to start as soon as possible, and no later than January 2027.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States. ECP is unable to provide employment visa sponsorship for this position.
- Must be able to comply with health, safety, and vaccination requirements applicable to ECP events, partner sites, and travel, as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in education, food systems, individual or public health, environmental, animal-focused nonprofits, or other fields related to ECP’s mission.
- An existing network within philanthropic communities aligned with ECP’s mission, including climate, education, animal welfare, food systems, and individual or public health.
- Experience with Givebutter or a comparable donor CRM and fundraising platform.
What Success Looks Like in This Role
In your first 90 days, you’ll have a clear picture of ECP’s mission, existing donor landscape, a working rhythm established with our CEO and relevant staff, and your first conversations underway with prospective individual donors.
By 6 months, you’ll have a healthy, qualified major-gift pipeline underway, with initial solicitations made and gifts beginning to close, and qualified prospects at various stages of cultivation.
By your first year, you’ll have built ECP’s first individual-giving program, with an active donor portfolio, a disciplined cultivation and stewardship process, and meaningful major and individual gifts successfully closed.
We’ll talk through specific goals and metrics as part of the interview process.
Compensation & Benefits
