About the Role

The Humane League is seeking an Associate Vice President of Philanthropy who will help lead The Humane League’s (THL) Development department by overseeing its global donor relations work, including all one-to-one donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. The AVP will be responsible for generating over half of THL’s annual fundraising revenue, and play a critical role in advancing sustainable, mission-aligned growth for a high-impact organization working to end the abuse of animals raised for food.

The Associate Vice President of Philanthropy will drive a relationship-centered, portfolio-based fundraising strategy focused on major gifts, mid-level growth, planned giving, and long-term donor value. This role will lead and coach a team of Philanthropy Officers while also serving as a frontline fundraiser, managing a portfolio of high-capacity donors and securing five- to seven-figure gifts. The AVP must have deep expertise in donor strategy, including experience guiding complex solicitations, advising senior leadership and Board members, and strengthening fundraising capabilities across the organization.

The Humane League started with a bunch of scrappy activists in Philadelphia — determined to expose the cruelty of their broken food system — and has grown into an unstoppable movement. Today, they’re a global force for animals, combining rigorous science, laser-like focus, and people power with the unwavering belief that animals deserve better. They’ve built a coalition that spans more than 70 countries. They’ve transformed how the world’s biggest food companies treat animals. And they’ve proven that factory farming — an industrial system that’s only existed for a century — can be dismantled.

Their values are their guiding force and inform their culture, and their approach, to ending the abuse of animals raised for food.

About the Organisation

The Humane League (THL) is a global nonprofit ending the abuse of animals raised for food. THL fosters a high-energy culture of teamwork and mission-driven problem solving, and we have earned recognition as Top Charity from Animal Charity Evaluators for all of their rating periods. Over the past few years, we’ve grown to a staff of 100+ talented individuals dispersed across the country and around the world. At THL, how animals are treated in the food system is at the forefront of our everyday work. As such, many of our staff are vegan by personal choice, and all of our THL-hosted events offer fully vegan menus. We welcome all mission-aligned candidates to apply, no matter where you are in your journey to end the abuse of animals raised for food.
