The Animal Welfare Alliance is looking for a new specialist advisor/senior specialist advisor in fish welfare. This position is for you who like to find, systematize, and analyze knowledge about fish welfare, and want to contribute to a better life for Norwegian farmed fish.

About the Role
You will become part of the specialist department and will contribute to strengthening the knowledge base for the Animal Welfare Alliance’s work on fish welfare.
An important part of the job is to find, systematize, and compile relevant knowledge. Among other things, you will search for research, public data, reports, and other documentation, and make the information available and useful for colleagues working with fish welfare.

Among other things, you will work on:
- Search for and compile research and other professional information about fish welfare.
- Collect and systematize data and statistics from public and other relevant sources.
- Map issues, measures, and trends in the aquaculture industry.
- Participate in developing strategy and direction for the Animal Welfare Alliance’s work.
- Senior Advisor: Lead and develop projects that influence the Norwegian aquaculture industry in a more animal-friendly direction.
About You

You thrive on tasks where you have to delve into large amounts of information and find out what is actually relevant.
You keep a cool head when multiple tasks come at the same time, and deliver solid quality within deadlines. You work independently, efficiently, and structured, while being thorough and concerned with quality. You take responsibility for progress and follow up on tasks until results are achieved.
You don’t need to know everything about fish welfare beforehand, but you must have a good scientific foundation and be motivated to learn. You have good judgment, consider the big picture before acting, and understand when you can drive the work forward independently and when it is important to clarify with others.
You thrive on a workday that also involves some travel and participation in meetings and conferences.
Your Qualifications
- You have relevant higher education, for example in biology, fish health, veterinary medicine, aquaculture, or similar.
- Alternatively, you have other higher education with experience from the aquaculture industry.
- You have a good understanding of salmon biology and good knowledge of the aquaculture industry.
- You have a good knowledge of the scientific method, are firmly grounded in academic principles, and have the ability to read and evaluate research.
- For senior advisors, experience with project management is required.
It is an advantage, but not a requirement, that you:
- Have experience from the aquaculture industry, fish health services, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, or other public aquaculture management.
- Have particular experience with hatchery fish, land-based farming, or closed production systems.
- Have good knowledge of relevant management and regulations, and understanding of the political framework for Norwegian aquaculture.
- Have good oral and written communication skills in Norwegian and English.
- Are used to writing professional texts and can communicate complex subject matter in a clear and understandable way.
