About the Role

We are currently seeking a Government Affairs Manager for Mexico to join our team. This individual will be responsible for leading initiatives to promote laws, regulations, government policies, and corporate actions aimed at mitigating the suffering of animals used for human consumption. They will also be responsible for increasing the organization’s visibility by acting as a spokesperson, collaborating with media outlets and influential opinion leaders, and formally representing MFA in public forums.

You Will Do Invaluable Work

  • Identify and develop strategies that promote the mission and objectives of MFA’s legislative and regulatory priorities.
  • Conduct research on public policies at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Lobby at the local, state, and federal levels, working with legislators and regulatory agencies to advance MFA policy initiatives.
  • Foster bipartisan relationships with individuals, institutions, and organizations to positively influence and gain support for the organization’s initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Global Corporate Relations team to generate campaign plans through appropriate research and analysis, oversee regional implementation, adapt them as needed, and implement strategies to achieve identified objectives.
  • Create, manage, and lead coalitions to broaden support for MFA’s legislative priorities, developing coalitions with a variety of stakeholders where common interests converge, including members of non-traditional coalitions.
  • Draft persuasive letters, memos, and other written documents.
  • Collaborate closely with the media, opinion leaders, influencers, and relevant stakeholders to increase the visibility and impact of our projects.
  • Collaborate with the regional Communications team to actively seek opportunities to represent the work of MFA Latin America in different communication channels, forums, events, and conferences, as well as coordinate the message, tone, and media appearance opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the legal department to ensure that MFA Latin America complies with all laws relating to lobbying.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization in media interviews and events.
  • Develop and manage the department’s strategic plans and budget, both short and long term, together with the department supervisor.
  • Comply with all personnel administrative and operational policies and procedures.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by your supervisor.

Your Skills Will Take Our Team to the Next Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, political science, public administration, international relations, and/or journalism (preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working with elected officials to promote legislative and/or regulatory initiatives (required).
  • Knowledge of federal and state legislative and regulatory processes.
  • It is highly desirable to have a solid understanding of animal rights and welfare.
  • Minimum of 2 years of verifiable and relevant work experience in Corporate Relations and/or Campaigns.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and the ability to deliver high-impact presentations.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, both written and spoken.
  • High level of integrity, interpersonal skills, and ability to build and maintain trusting relationships.
  • High level of flexibility and comfort in the face of change and uncertainty.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple issues of varying complexity, meeting deadlines and deliverables that require a quick response.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional appearance and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Availability to travel.
