About the Role

Our Planet. Theirs Too. — the nonprofit behind the global National Animal Rights Day (NARD) events — is looking for a Social Media, Marketing & Communications Lead.

The role will involve supervising and leading a small team of associates across all of our digital marketing, communications, and social media efforts. This includes content creation and review, text, graphic and video editing, team direction, and strategy development across our brands.

We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successfully managing and expanding the social media, communications, and/or marketing efforts of an established animal rights organisation for several years.

Additional Requirements

Native English Speaker

  • You will write copy and edit and proofread the work of other native English speakers from the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

Social Media Literacy

  • Strong understanding of how current algorithms work across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and other platforms.
  • Ability to identify effective video hooks, keyword placement, and optimal post formatting.

Communications

  • Comfort managing a wide range of communication channels, including newsletters, websites, social media, press releases, flyers, and related materials.

Marketing

  • Familiarity with current marketing practices and trends, and how they can be applied to maximise audience growth, engagement, and fundraising.

Familiarity with Animal Rights Content

  • Comfort reviewing footage of animal suffering.
  • Knowledge of current trends, tone, and aesthetics within the animal rights movement, both online and offline.

Video Editing Capability

  • Basic to intermediate skills in trimming and editing footage using video editing applications.
  • Ability to layer audio over B-roll, apply basic effects, and make confident editorial decisions.

Graphic Design Capability

  • Basic to intermediate skills using graphic design applications such as Photoshop and Canva.
  • Ability to create banners, posters, flyers, social media graphics and carousels, and other visual materials.

Team Direction

  • Ability to provide constructive feedback on the team’s work.
  • Experience planning work, setting goals, stepping in when necessary, and guiding the team patiently and efficiently on a daily and weekly basis.

Availability

  • Strong preference for candidates based in North American time zones who are available during US working hours.
  • Minimum commitment of 20 hours per week.
  • Ability to start as soon as possible.

Engagement

  • This is an independent contractor engagement.
  • We are looking to fill the position for the long term rather than as a temporary gig.
  • Payment will be based on the number of hours worked, skills, and experience.
