From journalism to animal advocacy: how Ignacia found work that felt like home

Ignacia Sáiz Lynch spent a decade in communications and journalism in Chile. She was good at telling other people’s stories. But after years of it, she found herself wanting her work to be closer to the things she actually cared about like animals, the planet, the kind of change she wanted to see in the world.

That realisation didn’t arrive all at once, but more through a slow, searching personal process that led her to step back from full-time work, try freelancing, and spend time doing the things that felt most alive to her, like trekking and biking. There was one thing she was certain of: she wanted to advocate for animals. She just didn’t know yet that a professional path existed that could take her there (or what that would even look like).

Finding AAC’s job board opened up a world of possibilities she hadn’t known to look for in her quest for impactful roles. But it was the online course that really shifted something. It gave her not just opportunities, but knowledge, expanding her way of thinking about how to help animals that was rigorous, practical, and genuinely inspiring. She came away from it with a clearer sense of direction and, by her own admission, a new openness to possibilities she might otherwise have talked herself out of.

It was through the job board that she found ProVeg International. In September, she joined as their International Events Coordinator, building and shaping a role she’s invested in completely.

“AAC opened my eyes to a whole new world of job possibilities, but moreover taught me a lot about the best way to do it,” she says. “Now I’m happy to invest my energy in this amazing organisation with such a great and challenging mission.”

And in December 2025, Ignacia welcomed her daughter Emma into the world. She’s currently on maternity leave, pouring that same energy into what she calls her very best project yet.
