Thank you for being part of our most successful year yet!

As we close 2024, we’re celebrating AAC’s remarkable achievements from 2024: In one year we have helped 75 people successfully transition towards making a meaningful contribution for animals and we supported 199 new organisations through our job board and databases, taking our client base to 440 organisations.

You may be correctly asking, isn’t that over 3 times more people helped than previous years?

How is that possible?

Well, this year AAC expanded its support for mission-aligned candidates looking to make a meaningful contribution – through effective giving. We recognise that there are sadly only limited non-profit jobs available and that pledge donations can be an extremely important way to contribute towards the animal movement and help with the talent bottlenecks in our movement, we launched Giving for Animals.

28 Career placements:

28 people found paid permanent roles in our movement

  • 14, where we had a major influence on their career decisions.
  • 14 of which were in the hardest-to-hire roles.1
  • At top organisations: Mercy For Animals, The Humane League, Farmallatvedelem, Asia Accountability Initiative, Animal Equality, Insect Institute, New Roots Initiative and many others.

40 joined Giving for Animals:

  • 40 new members in our giving pledge club
  • 16 took the 10% pledge, and 24 took the trial pledge
  • Approximately $2.1 M in new donation commitments

7 Volunteer commitments

  • 7 people started new volunteer commitments.

We estimate our work has added $830,000 of value to the movement in 2024, which would unlikely be in the movement without AAC, a 3:1 multiplier of impact to $ spent in our organisation.

And the impact of this year is not over yet! Our analysis below shows that the full impact of 2024 programmes will continue to unfold in the years to come.

 full impact of 2024

*This graph shows how many high-impact placements AAC discovered each quarter. The numbers increase over time as we continue to learn about new placements from previous years.

But this year, we reached an even more significant milestone: our 215th tracked contribution. That we know2 of….

  • 58 people have started new volunteering internship placements
  • 113 people made permanent career changes
  • 44 pledgers: 20 made the 10%, 24 people took the trial pledge.

Each one of these people is accelerating change for animals with their talent; many of them hadn’t considered a career in the movement before or knew where they could best contribute their talents.

While numbers tell part of our story, our true impact lies in the individual lives we’ve transformed. Let me share a few of these inspiring journeys with you…

Kelsey Favret- Leadership Giving Officer, The Good Food Institute

Kelsey Favret- Leadership Giving Officer, The Good Food Institute

Transitioning from the arts sector to the NGO sector, she found herself searching for meaningful opportunities.

”Landing a role at the Good Food Institute (GFI) felt like serendipity. While I had heard of GFI in passing, I wasn’t actively following the organization. It was through the Animal Advocacy Careers (AAC) job board that I stumbled upon the perfect fit. Despite regularly browsing LinkedIn it was AAC that consistently delivered the animal advocacy roles I was seeking. Their platform streamlined my search, ensuring I didn’t miss out on opportunities aligned with my passion for social justice and animal welfare. I am so grateful to AAC, because I got this job primarily because of AAC.”

Tania Luna- Co-founder of Scarlet Spark

Tania Luna- Co-founder of Scarlet Spark

Tania has given hundreds of organisations leadership and management consulting in the last 2 years. In 2022 she received career coaching from AAC after feeling unclear about how she could translate her success in the for-profit sector to impact in the non-profit space. In her own words:

“AAC’s career coaching came at the perfect moment in my life. I had just sold my business and was ready and eager for a career that contributed to animals. AAC helped me identify how I can use my skills to make the biggest impact, resulting in the strategy behind the nonprofit I co-founded, Scarlet Spark. When there are so many options, it’s all too easy to do nothing. AAC shines a light through the darkness, helping people find their way into making the biggest difference they can”

It’s hard to imagine the animal advocacy space now without the wonderful work of Tania and her team and we are delighted to have had a major impact on her career decision to start this impactful organisation.

It can be about how a piece of content, talk you heard or programme influenced you or an action you took because of it.

Strategic pivot

At the beginning of 2024 AAC, after analysing 4 years of job board data, we uncovered a better understanding of the non-profit job market and that it was not substantially increasing but…. our audience of mission-aligned talent who wanted to meaningfully contribute their skills and talent is!

That is why we are looking to broaden the scope of paths to impact so that all advocates who want to use their skills and careers to make a meaningful difference to animals have an opportunity that is best suited for them.

Our commitment to you is to help direct you to opportunities where you can thrive and also help animals most based on your individual strengths and needs and the needs of the movement.

Although it is less solvable for us to dramatically increase the number of non-profit jobs available for talented mission-aligned candidates without decreasing our standard of high quality. We have instead proactively tried to increase our scope sideways by identifying more roles in LMICs and adjacent roles where we believe there is a high likelihood of impact if the right person is in the role.

Other key milestones

What about 2025? 🚀

Even more impact for animals and support for you.

  • AAC will power the world’s first policy accelerator designed to help you have an impact in the heart of policymaking in Europe and sectors adjacent to non-profits. If you or someone you know might be a good fit for this you can apply here.
  • More research into which jobs and careers (outside of non-profit organizations) can make the biggest positive impact on helping animals.
  • Sharing the final results from our 2024 talent bottleneck survey, surveying 97 organisations.
  • Now that our pledge club has grown into a small community, we’re planning a celebration! We’ll help you meet and connect with other members who share your giving goals. More details coming soon!
  • Many of you have asked for our career advice service, and we’re listening! We’re almost finished hiring a new career advisor so we can offer more coaching sessions. Our goal for 2025 is to provide 200 one-on-one career coaching sessions, double the amount of previous years!
