Despite his passion for animal welfare, Janis was headed toward conventional NGO roles because “animal welfare isn’t seen as a viable career path.”
After connecting with one of our advisors at a Berlin meetup, he discovered how his political volunteering could become a professional role focused on animals.
“I was already in the Green Party’s youth volunteering group, but I didn’t realise this was a viable career path. The encouragement was very helpful. I didn’t have that mindset. This moved me to take a step.”
Today, he advises a Member of Parliament on animal welfare legislation, working directly on the commission that shapes national agriculture and food system policies.
