This profile is part of the "Giving for Animals Stories" Series. Chris is a Software Engineer in telecoms (Also co-lead of the London GWWC group), and took the Giving What We Can pledge to donate a part of his income to animal charities.

What inspired you to start donating to the animal advocacy cause and what motivates you to continue?

I was inspired by listening to successful advocates like Leah Garces talk about the amazing things they've achieved for millions of animals with quite small amounts of money and very small teams.

The scale of factory farming is so great that the changes we can bring about impact an unimaginable number of animals. Advocates have demonstrated that they can get results so I'm excited to put my money towards them continuing their efforts.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about taking the pledge/earning to give for animals, but is unsure?

I used to donate exclusively to human causes and initially, I was unsure about deviating from that. Over time I've realised that the scale of the impact we can have on farmed animals is so large that it's an obvious choice.

Donating for animals does not mean you don't care about the global poor or many other important causes, it's simply a recognition that animals matter too and we can help far more of them to a much greater extent.
